Tesla's China president was quoted by local media on Tuesday as saying the Shanghai Gigafactory could eventually play a major role in mass-producing humanoid robots. The comment comes after Tesla said earlier this year that it would pivot away from producing Model S and X vehicles at its California factory and convert the vehicle production lines to Optimus robot production.
The Shanghai Morning Post quoted Allan Wang Hao, a senior executive at Tesla China, who said the Shanghai Gigafactory could provide a "golden key" to mass-producing the Optimus robot.
"Like other Tesla factories, Giga Shanghai can shoulder important responsibilities in manufacturing all new products, including robots, to make our contributions to the company," Hao said. "We are highly confident in welcoming the arrival of a new era of robots."
One wonders if how is straight up lying because Elon has stated that it is California that is convert to Optimus factory production not China. Besides it would be amazingly stupid if to after having all of his EV technology stolen by the Chinese he would repeat it all over again with robotics giving Chinese access to his technology and production. Of course you can always get a finished unit and reverse engineer it but it's oh so much faster if you already have a production plant to look at how every last part is made that probably puts you 5 years ahead.
Let's hope that Elon is not that stupid and the technology with China gets built as an even bigger Great Wall they are welcome to do the low end but they have to be punished for their decades of stealing technology from the United States value to the trillions.
